Summer AmeriCorp Internship at Legal Counsel for the Elderly (DC)

Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE), through a collaborative project with Network for Victim Recovery in DC (NVRDC), is seeking an AmeriCorps legal intern for the summer semester to help deliver critically needed legal assistance to low-income and underserved communities across the District of Columbia. The intern will improve the lives of victims of elder abuse by providing legal assistance to older adult victims of abuse, neglect, and exploitation. The intern will focus specifically on assisting attorneys with responding to instances of elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation through legal research, drafting briefs, client outreach and intake screenings as well as assisting the DC Long Term Care Ombudsman with research and investigations of abuse, neglect or financial exploitation.  The legal intern will be housed within LCE and will provide services and support through a partnership between LCE and NVRDC. The position will require 300 hours of service and will start in May/June.  Upon successful completion of requirements, the intern will be eligible for an AmeriCorps education award of $1,222.
