Trafficking in Persons Research Intern or Fellow

Interns for ABA Rule of Law Initiative (ROLI)  will work with program staff of their assigned division to gain an understanding of international development programs and international rule of law issues.

ABA ROLI is seeking full- or part-time research interns (current students) and fellows (recent graduates) to support an investigation of global supply chains and human trafficking risks in sub-Saharan Africa. The internship/fellowship is available for a term of three months to a year, depending on the intern’s/fellow’s availability, and will be available through May 2017.

Although this is an unpaid position, interns at ABA ROLI are eligible for a wide variety of perks and learning opportunities including:

  • Transportation reimbursement up to $12.00/day
  • Field trips to D.C. legal destinations such as the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Supreme Court, and Library of Congress
  • Brown-bag lunches with ABA ROLI staff and guest speakers

RESPONSIBILITIES

The intern will support an investigation of global supply chains and human trafficking risks in sub-Saharan Africa.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current J.D. and LL.M. students and graduate students in other relevant disciplines are welcome to apply, as are recent graduates.Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills;
  • Interest or experience in labor law, commercial law, immigration law, human rights law, and/or humanitarian law ;
  • Strong commitment to public interest law and/or human/women’s rights, as evidenced by relevant experience and coursework;
  • Proficiency with MS Office;
  • Knowledge of Portuguese, French, Arabic, Amharic, Somali, or any other official language of sub-Saharan African countries is a plus
  • Prior experience in sub-Saharan Africa is a plus
  • Legal research interns should be well-organized, self-motivated, and reliable.
