Ayuda Domestic Violence/Family Law Staff Attorney

Ayuda is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing direct legal, social, and language access services, education, and outreach to low-income immigrants in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. With offices in both D.C. and Falls Church, VA, Ayuda has amassed a 40 year history of providing critical services on a wide range of issues, and acquired nationally recognized expertise in immigration law, domestic violence, and human trafficking, among other fields.

We are seeking a full-time Bilingual Domestic Violence and Family Law Attorney to advise and represent immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking primarily in domestic violence and domestic relations cases. The position is based in our Washington, D.C. office.

  • Conduct legal intakes and provide legal advice and counsel on domestic violence and sexual assault related matters including civil protection orders, child custody, child support, divorce, alimony, criminal victim-witness advocacy, and related immigration matters;
  • Provide direct legal representation to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in domestic violence and domestic relations cases in D.C. Superior Court;
  • Collaborate with Ayuda’s Social Services department to ensure the provision of holistic services;
  • Conduct trainings to area service providers and outreach presentations to potential client groups;
  • Represent Ayuda at local coalition meetings and participate in advocacy initiatives;
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of grant applications and reports; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • J.D. or LL.M from accredited law school;
  • Admission to D.C. Bar or immediate eligibility to practice under D.C. Court of Appeals Rule 49; additionally, admission to Maryland Bar is strongly preferred;
  • At least 6 months of civil legal practice experience (including substantive law school clinic experience), preferably in domestic violence and/or family law;
  • Experience working with low-income immigrant populations and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or other forms of gender-based violence;
  • Fluent Spanish;
  • Applicants who speak other languages (especially French, Amharic, Chinese, Vietnamese or Korean) are encouraged to apply; and
