Exciting Pro Bono Activity

On Saturday, November 14, 10 am to noon, CUA law students will be helping to staff the D.C. Bar’s Advice and Referral Clinic, 1525 7th Street, NW.  You’ll be paired with an attorney from Dickstein Shapiro and will contact intake interviews on a variety of matters.   This is a great way to help local residents, learn and network.  We want you to participate!  Please e-mail Jeanine Piller, Pro Bono Coordinator, at piller@law.edu, by Friday, November 6. 

Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ) invites applications from first and second year law students for the Deborah T. Poritz Summer Public Interest Fellowship Program during the summer of 2010.  The purpose of the program is to promote public interest and poverty law opportunities for interested law students.  Hiring decisions are made on a rolling basis, so interested students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.  An application form and more information is available at http://www.lsnj.org/internprog.htm

Nonprofit Career Fair

Idealist. org is sponsoring a Nonprofit Career Fair in Washington DC on November 10, 2009, where job seekers can distribute resumes and speak with nonprofit recruiters about current and future employment, internship, and volunteer opportunities. Monday, October 26, 8 p.m., Pax Christi CUA will stage a performance of “Speak Truth to Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark.” The award-winning play includes the stories of peacemakers Helen Prejean, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel, the Dalai Lama and others. AYUDA seeks a full-time, bilingual Domestic Violence/Family Law Staff Attorney to provide direct legal services to low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.  See flyer for more information.

The Children’s Law Center (CLC) (Washington, DC) invites applications for a full time staff attorney to begin in the Fall of 2010. The staff attorney will represent children in abuse and neglect, adoption and guardianship proceedings and may also represent some caregivers in similar matters. 

Applications should include a cover letter, current resume, legal writing sample and list of references. Applications must be received by December 1, 2009. Interviews will be scheduled during January and early February. No phone calls.
